Duong Vu

Duong, a seasoned Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer, brings over 5 years of expertise in software development, algorithm implementation, and model building across diverse sectors such as Autonomous Vehicles, Consulting, and Finance. Duong’s specialization spans data engineering, encompassing python, dask/pyspark, ETL pipelines, data management, and cloud services. Within the data science sector, her proficiency extends to research, scoping business questions into data science problems, prototyping, and machine learning, utilizing tools like PyTorch for modeling, system design, and model deployment and maintenance.

Duong earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Finance from Vietnam National Economics University and holds both a Master of Jurisprudence with a concentration in International Commercial Law from Indiana University as well as a Master of Data Science from the University of British Columbia.

Duong has a demonstrated background in software development, algorithm implementation, and model building, notably across diverse industries such as Autonomous Vehicles, Consulting, and Finance. She specializes in building and deploying data pipelines for image and video training datasets in the Public Safety and Autonomous Vehicle sector, performing analysis on geospatial data, and enhancing model performance for both deep learning and traditional machine learning tasks. Committed to data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement, Duong’s expertise extends to organizing cross-functional teams and providing valuable consultation for customer ML teams.

Outside of her work, Duong loves getting involved in her community, contributing her efforts to initiatives such as organizing the Vancouver Women in Data Science event in partnership with Stanford University. When she’s not busy volunteering or working, Duong enjoys spending her spare time playing with her Samoyed dog.
