In the 70th episode of the IoT Podcast: Over the Air, Ryan Prosser, CEO of Very, visits the 2023 WESTEC trade show and talks to five participants about their companies, IoT journeys, and experiences in the manufacturing industry.

The first interview is with Bryan Bauw from Pico MES, a company that enables discrete assembly manufacturers to effectively do three things: digitize the work instructions, connect all of their tools, and provide a level of traceability and accountability for what happens on their shop floor. In simple terms, it’s the gamification of manufacturing.

Up next is Brandon Golab from Renishaw, a process control company that ensures that all machines are working to their optimum levels. Brandon is spending time with customers on how to improve manufacturing processes. A part of that is down to their new Industry 4.0 platform that’s designed around collecting data and acting upon that data to improve manufacturing.

Next, Ryan connects with Kelley Fletcher from FARO Technologies, a 3D imaging company that is focused on digitizing real-world products. They use data to measure, align, and reverse engineer products for different applications. At WESTEC they are focusing on the manufacturing side of things and engaging with customers in aerospace, automotive, and tech companies to help them make better products.

Next, we meet Chris Vihnanek from Linde, the world’s largest industrial gas company. The company also manufactures machinery and equipment, which brings them to WESTEC. The company has taken its engineering prowess to make its machinery more productive for customers. Chris discusses the acute shortage of skilled labor and highlights how their machines bridge the gap.

Ryan’s last guest is Robert Humphreys from Fastems, a factory automation company that focuses on pallet handling, while also dipping into part handling and integration of machine tools and processes. At the trade show, they are offering a solution to make spindles more efficient and productive.
