In the 69th episode of IoT Podcast: Over the Air, Ryan Prosser, CEO of Very, visits the International Fastener Expo in Las Vegas, interviewing various executives about their IoT journeys and experiences in the manufacturing industry.

The first interview is with Steven Sherman of RivetKing, a 111-year-old company that manufactures industrial rivets. The company specializes in permanent mechanical fastening and is at the Fastener Expo to connect with other manufacturers and distributors in the industry.

The next interview is with Paolo Radaelli of Krabo. Krabo produces sensor bolts that are designed to improve the safety of structures. These bolts have sensors that measure clamp load and can detect if the bolt is working properly. The metal of the bolt actually helps transmit the information.

Up next is Emily Hunt from Keyence. Keyence is a factory automation company focused on providing better accuracy and efficiency in manufacturing processes. Their IM series is an automated optical comparator that quickly inspects threaded parts. They also have XM and WM series, handheld CMMs that allow for 3D measurements and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. These technologies help overcome the shortage of skilled labor in the industry.

Next, Ryan connects with Jodi Hunt from Plex, a company that offers a comprehensive software system for manufacturing businesses. Their ERP and MES components cover all areas of such businesses. The founder initially created the software to address the need for inventory traceability, but it has expanded to include production monitoring and automation. Their technology helps manufacturers become more efficient and solves the gap in skilled labor by streamlining processes and providing real-time insights.

The final guest is Stewart Katz from Optimas, a global manufacturing distributor of supply chain solutions. Stewart explains that they specialize in industrial fasteners and offer automated inventory management and replenishment using RFID and EDI technology. Their system detects low stock through RFID-tagged bins and triggers automated replenishment orders. Stewart emphasizes the efficiency and automation that their technology brings to the supply chain.
